Subject: won't start - not nuetral start IP: Logged
Message: I have been having trouble getting my 94 magnum 8 4x4 to start, I need to move the shifter around to get it to engage, I replaced the neutral start switch - and it seems to be slightly better, but I'm still having problems... any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated!!

Message: Please... any help? I can get it to start if I wiggle the shifter, and it starts easier when warm. it seems to only still want to start in park and nuetral.
Any possibilities that it is the starter?

Message: it is only supposed to start in neutral and park. thats what the safety switch is for.

Message: It sounds like you have a switch problem. You said you replaced the neutral switch, but what about the park one? Also, make sure all of your linkages are tight.

Message: Thanks, there is a separate park switch? is that in the tranny or on the column? the linkages seem good, and when I can get it to start, it is only in the park or nuetral spots, so that seems ok.

Message: Check the pinch bolt that clamps the linkage to the valve body shaft on the trans (directly above the switch you replaced). These have been known to break. There is a flat on it so it wont completely slip, just gets sloppy.
Also, it might just be a linkage adjustment or worn linkage bushing. These things can be a little tricky to adjust, a little makes a big difference.
The fact that you can get it to start by wiggling the shifter means that it is not electrical. There is no other switch than the one on the transmission.

Message: Thanks blakels, I didn't think there was another switch, but that will give me a couple places to look. Hopefully that will do it.
