Subject: clunking noise while stopping IP: Logged
Message: Does anyone know what this noise could be. There is no noise when accellerating. There is also no noise under light braking, but when I am coming to a complete stop there will be a few loud clunking noises. Anyone else have this problem?

Message: It's not your ABS. Your ABS can't cause a clunking sound. EXLAX is a troll.
It could be ball joints, severely worn pads or dry slider pins.

Message: My truck has made an odd soft clunking sound since I bought it, almost 75K miles ago. You can also feel it, almost like something is loose. It's almost as if the spare is loose. It's only when stopping. It's intermittant. And I can never seem to recreate it enough to locate it. I've been over that truck with a fine tooth comb, and can't find anything wrong. So I just ignore it.
Seems like I've heard this from other owners, too.

Message: I can't feel mine, but it is definately noticable if you have the radio off. I don't know what it could be. I've checked and can't find anything wrong. It's weird that it doesn't make any sound if i'm slowing down, but if I'm coming to a complete stop I can hear it.

Message: Most likely source of noise is loose/worn control arm bushings or/and worn ball joints. I heard mine most of the time when I was taking a slow right turn while braking and sometimes while coming to an abrupt stop. Mine noise was due to a combo upper control arm bushings, lower ball joints, and loose stabilizer bar/link on the passenger side.
If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

Message: it definetly sounds like its a combination of the ball joints and idler arm, I had the same thing happening to my truck for months till I finally replaced it.
A good way to check for sure is take it to a shop, have them put it up on the lift, and try to move the
front tires. If they shake alot then you definetly need new ball joints. If its the idler arm...and the ball joints, try pushing the bottom of the tire toward the truck. It will push the Idler arm upward, and hit the frame. If this is the case, you found your clunking.
Hope that helps...

Message: I too get a 'thud' that I can actually feel when coming to a stop when I have about 3/4 of a tank of gas. First few times it happened I thought something was wrong with my Dak or someone had lightly rear ended my truck. Good luck!
