I have an 89' reg. dodge that gets around 17 but it pings if I dont retard the timing... Does anyone else have this problem???

getting 21.5 mpg with a home brew cold air that is designed to increase manifold pressure at wide open and at speeds over 45 mph. It actually changes vacumm at 75 mph and wot to "0" psi "0" vacumm, not quite a blower but a lot cheaper."
care to clarify on this? got pics?
