Subject: cleaning fuel injectors?
IP: Logged

Message:
Has anyone ever taken their fuel injectors out of the truck and cleaned them?

I run seamfoam every oil change.

I am having a problem with the truck backfiring during acceleration at low speeds. See my post under v6 forum for details.

I am thinking about pulling my injectors, replacing the o-rings and trying to clean them. I found several companies that offer injector cleaning service and I could always just buy new ones.

Hi, I've never done on this truck but I'm sure its a good idea.

Would you guys recommend:
1)taking them off and getting cleaned
2)having a dealership do their cleaning on them
3)buy new replacements
4)buy new different injectors (I've read about the ford's for a 3.9)

I have a '98 3.9 with about 115k kms, and likely should be done, right now it dies when coming to a stop until the engine warms up.

I'm thinking I'll clean the TB and IAC, but also maybe do something with injectors. (I use fuel injector cleaner every oil change, just the regular pour into fuel tank stuff).

Thanks

Brad

Dan,

I recently replaced my injectors (seems like you and I are doing the same things at the same time) with the FMS Bosch. You can't beat the price of $200 for a set of 6. FMS price is half others. I don't know if you can even get them cleaned for near that price.
And the FMS injectors are new and guaranteed.
Also note, after I installed the new injectors, I had a couple of loose connections. So I used 4 inch cable ties to secure the plug to the injector.

$200 is not much more than paying to clean mine from the sites I have found.

I was just looking for something cheap as a preventative / maintenance item. I have to take my truck in to a shop to do fuel load balance test. Not really wanting to pay for that yet since I still have issues with the vehicle that i need to fix before ruling the injectors may be at fault.
