Currently I have my 99 Dakota 5.2 SLT at a stealership for an alignment (believe it or not they were the cheapest in town).
Well, after haggling over the price of the alignment from $110 to $69.95 they call and tell me the price has jumped to $149.
Here's what happened...
Backing and turning out of the driveway this morning and heard a loud bang. I continued up the road to discover that my truck now pulls to the left (bad pull). I took the front tires off the do a quick inspection and find nothing out of kilter. So, narrowing the possabilities down to alignment related issues I took the truck in.
Now, the dealer, sorry, stealer calls and says both my control arms are lose and my tires, when elevated, are sloped inward. That's how they justified the extra price on the alignment.
Anyone care to comment on this? Is my wallet getting pinched here for a typical alignment or am I just not up to speed enough on the working of my front end?

Now they call me and say I have a PS line that is about to rupture and that they can take care of it for $99.00.
Well, looks like I am getting my treatment here!

they must be having a slow day in their shop. an alginment is exactly that. they shouldn't go up in price unless parts are included, no matter how many adjustments they have to make. adjusting the upper control arms is just a matter of adding or removing shims.

It is part of the alianment procedure when required > If you got an estimate figure in writing then that's the price unless they discover worn parts that have to be replaced.

Are you people so damn cheap when it comes to something so important as the front end? You know the front ends on our trucks are junk and wear out every 6 months yet all you think is that somebody is trying to pick your pockets.
Here's what you do. Go invest 120 grand in an alignment rack and then give away free alignments and then worry about getting your ass sued off because some cheap bastard didn't want to pay what a service cost.
Quit whining or buy a Kia. That's my comment which you solicited so don't whine about that either. And have a nice day :)
