Subject: Headlight Problem IP: Logged
Message: My 1999 Dakota has started being contrary. My headlights now go off when I tilt my steering wheel any lower than the top two spots. The parking lights stay on and if I have the brights on they do not go off.
Anyone else experience this? I guess it must be a loose connection in the wiring in my steering column. I wonder how hard this would be to find and fix?
Help,
Bob

Message: Haha yeah i had the same problem. When you fix it, its actually kinda funny. Ok heres what you do, take the top and bottom covers off the steering wheel column. You will probably have to unclip the big plastic dash surround, and also the knee bloster on the bottom dash. Then look at the harness inside the collumn. My wire was purple, and you could see that it was loose. Its not a typical harness in that it has individual clips for each wire instead of just one harness plug set. So simply slide it back in. It happend to me a year and a half ago and I just slid it back in, since then i have tilted my steering wheel up and down fully countless times and it hasn't happend since. So in short you could lengthen it if you really wanted to, but I dont think its worth the extra effort, because its kind of a tight working area. Hope this helps ya.

Message: I had the EXACT same problem, its a purple wire, that plugs into the multifunction switch (turn signal assembly), take the plastic shrouds off the steering column, you will need security torque bits to get the multifunction switch off.. they look like a star bit, but they have a hole drilled in the center, there is a big plug in the back of the multi function switch held in by a bolt, take the plug out and the little black piece of plastic off of the plug and look for the purple wire , at the top right of the plug, i bet that is your problem... cause there is a little plastic peg inside that blue plug that holds the wire in place, the peg must have broken off (happened to me) i just redneck rigged mine, i put the wire in and coated a toothpick with super glue and wedged it in there... hasnt given me problems since
Hope this helps
