Message: I doubt that you have a problem. My 2001 4.7 does much the same thing. Remember that the gauges are only as accurate as the people that silkscreen the numbers. I panicked the first time I saw my OP so low, but if it increases with the RPM, you're getting oil.
However... if you were to see anymore drop in pressure, I'd have your oil pump checked.
BTW, if anyone can prove my wrong, let me know.... I'm still under warranty for quite a while.

Message: Gentlemen,do not ignore this problem, yes, best case senario it is a bad gauge, but with Brian and his after market gauge almost matching the stock gauge I would worry!!!I have been working on muscle cars for a long time and this was a common problem. No motor should have less than 15 to 18 psi of oil pressure at hot idle.I hate to be the one to tell you this, but if your oil pressure is really that low and has been for some time your bearings are toast and the motor is done. Are these all 4.7's we are talking about?Any way, what I would do is go to a good shop that you can trust and get them to test the motor and see if the gauge is the problem,I will cross my fingers for all of you,if the oil pressure is really that low and the gauge is correct, then I would go to the dealer or get in direct contact with Dailmer Chrysler and kick some a$$,they should replace all of your motors,it is cheaper than opening the motor you have now and trying to fix the problem, which most of the time nobody that works at a dealer even has the skills to do such a job.But if you really do have a oil pressure problem dont let the dealer or Chrysler brush you off,FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!Most people dont know this but GM just had a similar problem,it seems that some of their 4.6 ohc Northstar engines are loosing 1 quart of oil every 1500 miles!Well,a guy I know intersepted a few of these motors on the way to the trash and we are tearing them down. The problem is the sleeves in the aluminum block are to soft and have some severe bore taper! The oil is passing by the rings and being burned,GM is replacing the entire engine and trying to keep it hush hush.I have heard they have replaced around 10,000 of them so far,so find out if more Dak's and Durango's have this problem, and go to the mattresses!Good luck to you all.

Message: Brian, talk to a GOOD mechanic,he will tell you differently.Especially with a new motor, that is not enough pressure. It should NEVER go below 15 psi.I got the new issue of MOPAR ACTION in the mail this morning and there is a small article in there called:OIL PRESSURE,HOW MUCH IS ENOUGH? Go to your local news stand or book store and see if you can pick it up,it is a good crash course on this exact problem.

Message: A problem that seems to be common with Mopars and I have experienced it a couple of times is a bad sending unit. The oil pressure was fine but the gauges read low. Had the dealers replace the sender and everything appeared to be normal.
Either way I would have it checked out. If there is a problem you want to catch it before serious trouble develops. An oil starved engine just doesn't last too long.

Message: What would cause the oil presure to go bad after a normal oil change? It was perfect before that and the engine has NEVER run low on oil.

Message: YOu said you got an oil change. What kind of oil and more importantly, what type (brand) filter was used? Perhaps its the filter? It is possible to get a bad one once in a while.
