Subject: O2 Sensors IP: Logged
Message: Does anyone know if the O2 sensors are covered in the 7-70 powertrain warranty. I found out they aren't covered in the federal warranty.
Thanks

Message: I thought the entire emission system was covered under the 36 month federal emission warranty?

Message: Check the manual for specifics (or call a dealer) as the O2 sensors may or maynot be covered.

"How Long Do the Emissions Warranties Apply to Individual Parts of My
Vehicle?
For 1995 and newer model year vehicles, emission control and
emission related parts are warranted for the first 2 years or 24,000
miles of vehicle use. Specified major emission-control components are
warranted for the first 8 years or 80,000 miles of vehicle use.
Parts with a stated replacement interval, such as, "replace at
15,000 miles or 12 months," are warranted up to the first replacement
point only."
"What Are Specified Major Emission Control Components?
There are three specified major emission control components,
covered for the first 8 years or 80,000 miles of vehicle use on 1995
and newer vehicles:
* Catalytic converters.
* The electronic emissions control unit or computer (ECU).
* The onboard emissions diagnostic device or computer (OBD)."

Message: They are covered for 2/24. Covered for longer, depends on when the replace interval is (some are listed at 50k miles).
On this 2003, they might still be covered depends on milage. Best to call dealer.

Message: Ok after a run around with the dealer not giving me a straight answer. I had my bud with his current ASE cert # call and ask for a fax that covered all warranty parts. Well it seems dodge made a loop hole in there that says any part that generates or modulates a voltage is not covered.
The PCM is exempt from that list, it falls under the 8-80 federal warranty
So all in all I just shelled out $236.66 for two sensors cause no one around here has them.

Message: Been thinkin on this one for a bit, and it seems to me the upstream O2 sensor would not qualify as an emissions component, but as a fuel system component. It provides feedback to the computer to adjust the air/fuel mixture to keep the engine running smooth.
The downstream O2 sensor is a different story, though. Its sole purpose is to monitor the catalytic converter efficiency.
If you want to run without the catalytic converter(s), you still need the upstream O2 sensor, but the downstream sensor can be replaced with one of those simulators.
Just my $.02.

Message: Does any one know where I might be able to find one of those simulator O2 sensors? I'm currently without a catalatic converter because it was plugged up.
