i have a 98 sport with the four cylinder in it and a five speed. when i take off, and the rpms are low, i can hear a rattle. it's not like a thin sheet metal rattle, it's a solid rattle that goes away around probably 1300 rpm. my buddies 00 sport does the same thing, and never bothered to find out what it is. also, i've noticed that if i pull up to a stop and the truck isnt in gear, the engine doesnt idle all the way down until my speedometer reads exactly 0. is this something designed into the truck for some strange reason, or does my speed sensor control the idle speed somehow?

i can't help with the rattle but the idle thing, my '00 QC w/3.9 & 5spd does the same thing. the idle won't come down all the way until i come to a complete stop. must be built into the PCM.

My 98 Dakota Sport has the same rattle. 4 cyl, 5 speed. The idle thing is normal, I have owned 3 dakota's in different configurations and they all have done it. Would like to know what the rattle is. Sounds bad.
