Subject: Weird sound coming from under the truck IP: Logged
Message: I have quick question, a friend of mine has Sierra 2002 and he hears a sound, like a constant squeeking. However when he takes his foot of the gas pedal the squeeking stops. I thought for sure it is u-joints but I can't figure out why the noise stops when he takes his foot off the gas pedal.
Claude
PS I know this is a dakota site, but you guys have helped me so much in the past, I thought maybe you can figure this one out as well.

Message: Still could be U joints... Put foot on gas pedal
is putting system under load. Take foot off, no
load..
It only takes a few minutes to remove the drive
shaft to check it out...

Message: Hey Radioman, I think I can take it off with no problem, but what am I looking for. Should I do both sides (on the transfer case and differential)

Message: I'd remove all.. You can tell if there is
something wrong when you move the joint around
after it's removed..
Get someone to look at it also if you're not sure.
Good luck..

Message: drive the truck around for a while. like 15 miles. then pull over right away and feel the u joints to see if they're hot. my gmc did that squeaking real bad, and when i felt the driveshaft/differential u joint, i almost burned my fingers.

Message: Why not start looking this way > Do drive the truck around a while but not on highway > Then set the emergency brake and block a wheel on both sides for extra safety > With the truck NOT RUNNING, crawl under there and twist the rear drive shaft back and forth very slow so you can watch closely for play in U JOINT > If none try the front one > Also push them from side to side up and down, left to right > One way or another your going to see/feel play if bad > This has always worked for me and may save waisted time taring it apart
