Subject: AWD 4.7 Dak ??? IP: Logged
Message: GOT a 2001 4.7auto AWD Dak. Dont off-road & not much snow around here-in an attempt to increase fuel mileage, was wondering about disconnecting front driveshaft to revert to 2wd only. Problem is, not sure what/how it might affect the XFer case/tranny/computer etc...QUESTION: has anybody
unhooked front driveshaft on AWD DAK & driven any time/distance? Thanks in advance, KRELLCO

Message: You'll just screw up your truck and gain nothing. All wheel drive doesn't hurt your fuel economy. I will make your running gear last longer because it spreads out the pulling load. Handling and traction are improved dramaticly too, on or off road.

Message: To even attempt that, you'll need to lock the xfer case, as the AWD mode makes the xfer case act like an open diff.
Whether keeping the xfer case in 4wd mode without a front drive shaft will hurt it,,, don't know. Personally, I wouldn't (and haven't) try it.
