Subject: Water Pump Leakage IP: Logged
Message: I recently had the intake manifold gasket replaced on my '97 Dakota and now the water pump gasket appears to be leaking.Would the water pump have to be removed or loosened to replace the manifold gasket? A Dealer did the work so if there is any chance that they may have caused this problem I would like to know. Thanks.

Message: Is it the water pump or the t-stat housing leaking? The water pump is mounted to the timing chain cover, and if the intake manifold gasket was replaced it should NOT have caused the water pump to leak.(2 separate areas on the motor) If it is the t-stat housing, that is part of the manifold and could have been cause by the dealership.
If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

Message: Just had the water pump on mine replaced under warranty last week. On the invoice said total cost would have been around $420.

Message: They could have done what I did. When I was replacing the belly pan I accidently removed one of the water pump bolts, I thought it was holding the accessory bracket. I was able to put it back in with no leaks though.
