That sucks I usually replace that when I do a tune up on a vehicle. I don't feel like dropping the tank though.

i wouldn't worry about changing it unless the pump or gage is giving you trouble or the tune up doesn't help. some say it's easier to move the bed than drop the tank.

Will the pump run with out this filter attached to it? If it will I might just taked out the original one, and install a new one some where more acesable along the fuel line. This doesn't seem like it would be very hard to do. Any thoughts or suggestions.

It is not in the tank. It is on top of the tank, it is a module that plugs into the top. It is a combination pressure regulator/fuel filter

I replaced the whole fuel pump assembly in my 00 dak v6 cc 2wd started to loosen bolts on straps of fuel tank and stopped and scrathed my head tightened bolts back up and undid the 8 bolts for the bed me and my buddy lifted off the bed changed the pump done within an hour real quick. i am pretty sure its all one unit and you cant separate them if the screen at the bottom of the fuel pump clogs there wouldnt be any purpose to mount one on the frame rail it would just be redundant. When i took my pump out of my v6 with 90000 there was no debris clogging it whatsoever. And i run my tank down pretty low. needless to say i dont have that truck anymore got an r/t with some real power.
