I broke out my one piece rear window recently while mowing the yard (launched a rock out of mower into window!), and I just had to pay a $120 deductable to have a new window installed. Of course I didn't admit fault to the insurance company, just said it was broke when I got into truck one morning. So contact your insurance company, maybe it won't cost as much as you think. Plus it will be 'professionally' installed so if you have any problems or leaks you can take it back and have have it fixed for free. Good luck!

i had a shovel thrown through mine at a drinking party last summer. the whole thing has to be replaced. it is very easy though. all you have to do is get the gasket around the window then pop it over the channel

If not saying anyone is wrong, but I thought you COULD replace the back glass? I removed one from our old 87 dakota and If you remove the rubber gasket, there SHOULD be a place in the frame that can be removed with a screwdriver and the new piece of glass can be installed... I will take a look at that again if you want.... But, I would recommend doing as Spacinjason said... Its possible to do it yourself I believe but a better investment to let a profession do it... Good luck!

I haven't done a Dak, but have done other trucks, pretty easy. Pop the old gasket out of the truck by prying it out with a couple of standard screw drivers. Put the old gasket on the new window, install a peice of 1/8" rope inside the gasket channel that fits into the truck. You need the rope to go all the way around the window and then another 1-2 feet. Lube the wingow gasket and truck oppening with some WD-40, automotive hand cleaner, anything that won't wipe off easliy , stays slick and washes off easily,,, KY ???

Place the gasket into the window opening and use the rope to pull the gasket into place. It's difficult to explain who to get the window to pop into place, look online for instructiions of how to install a sliding rear window for a full explanation.

This is something that you and one of your buddies can do in less than a 6-pack ;-)

Nothing funny about using KY > Been doing that for years > great for installing new grips on bikes or motorcycles or anything that binds going together > anyway > always handy to have around on lucky days too lol
