Subject: Draining my radiator IP: Logged
Message: i have attempted to flush my cooling system in my 99 dakota (3.9L) but when i turn the petcock to drain the radiator, nothing. Do these frequently get clogged, or have I somehow done something wrong? If I just disconnect my lower radiator hose will that flush out the old junk sufficiently?

Message: most of the time the drain petcock's really do not work and if you force them to come out, they have a tendency to break, i would recommend that you use the lower rad hose to drain the rad but if you really want to drain the system, drain by the rad hose plus drain from the freeze plugs as well.

Message: I just replaced my drain cock, after I broke it.
Advance Auto has them for Dodge.
They are easy to replace. You squeeze the sides together with needle nose pliers and pull out the whole assembly.
The new one just pushes in and snaps into place.
There is only one way that it will go into the hole.

Message: When I attempted to drain mine using the petcock, I got a wet surprise when I took of the water pump. The only way to make sure you get everything out is by using the lower radiator hose.
