Message: Does any one have a clue in Chrysler group will have a ture 5 speed anytime soon?? I no fan of the 545REF becuase its just a 3 speed with two overdrives. Toyota,Nissan have ture 5speeds and GM will include 6speeds (starting the the 6-80E) for there new 06 or 07 trucks.

Message: Well the gears in the auto are pretty far spaced out. Maybe he was trying to say he wants the tranny more geared like a manual with 4th being 1:1 ratio instead of 3rd. With my auto i would like to have a lower second gear and another before my 1:1 (3rd) ratio on the upshift.

Yes, I'm looking for a 5 speed with 4 gears and a over drive not 3 gears and 2 O/Ds. Not only do not have to shift down back to third, but you have a lower 1st gear; Another word the gears are spaced closer. IE. Toyota and Nissan a better transmisson becuase 4th is 1:1 and its more suitable for towing.
I still can't understand why Chrysler won't up date there Heavy Duty transmisson (48RE) and borrow the a design from Eaton Fuller or Allison trannies.

Message: Yes Mr spencer that is correct, but i think what STS wants or is looking for is a tranny something like this.
first 3.40
second 2.00
third 1.40
fourth 1.00
fifth .70

Message: Like a 5 speed MANUAL
Although in a 5 speed 1st is pretty low, and that is kind of cool. But when auto's have a descent stall speed, they do pretty good.
I do agree, that the 4th is RARELY used more than in brief moments. I'd like some control to drop from 5th to 4th muself.
However. It is NOT a junk tranny. Should be quite stronger than the 42/46, etc of the past. And NO BANDS to adjust/fail
With the SuperChips tuner, mine also shifts like a GOOD shift kit in a 46RE would. Plus mine still does a better job holding gears when towing.
I'm not complaining.

Message: Sounds like what you want is a close ratio transmission; the 545RFE is a true 5 speed.
