Subject: Leaky Cap
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a cap on my truck, and it is leaking very badly. The back of my bed where the glass window is gets completely soaked every time that it rains. Their is a piece of rubber hanging off of the glass window, that is suppose to seal it. I only plan on keeping the cap untill spring, when I will switch to a tonneau cover. So I am fine with a temporary solution. Thank you in advance for any ideas that you come up with.

not quite sure where exactly this is leaking from your description--is it the area at the bottom of the glass where the glass meets the tailgate?

one thing i can think of is to buy some camper shell weather stripping at the hardware store. your camper should have some already where the rest of the shell meets the truck bed. you can buy a roll of it for cheap at any true value / ace hardware type place. if i remember this stuff is packaged specifically for camper shells.

if the leak is coming from where the glass meets the tailgate, why not just stick a strip of this on the bottom of the glass, on the back side? it's not the best fix but should last you until you get rid of the shell.

Are you talking about the front of the cap, or the back ? Sometimes you need to double up that camper tape at the front. If leak is at the back, you could try repositioning the shell.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

I am not exactlly sure where the leak is. All I know is that the back of the bed by the tail gate gets wet during the rain. My best guess would be where the glass window meets the tail gate. I will try putting a piece of the tape on the window hanging down about an inch or so, and see if that does any thing.
