Subject: Quick Question IP: Logged
Message: After the engine light came on in my 2000 koda, i took it to Autozone and had them do a quick diagnostic test on it...the result was that..."the pressure sensor for the power steering is out of range"
so...what does this mean exactly...and what needs to be done?
any help would be greatly appreciated

Message: Before you do anything oOVibeOo, I'd do a reset on
the trucks computer. Remove the NEG wire from your
battery. Turn your key to RUN and let it set for
a few minutes.
If the fault code comes back then begin to dig
deeper into the problem.
About once every six months or so my 02 will give
me a air cond clutch fault code. It won't clear on
its own and nothing is wrong with the system. I do
the above and everything is fine once again.
Good luck...

Message: FYI for the future: 2000-2004 Dakotas (and I assume 2005's, haven't heard for sure) can check their own CEL's by putting the key in the ignition and turning it to ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON (ON is forward, not starting) and leaving it there. In your odometer window you will see the PXXXX code(s) flash, and once all codes have been displayed it will say PDONE. CEL codes are universal so there are lists of them posted all over the internet including my site.

Message: My 95 does the same, only you count the number of times the check engine light flashes to get the codes.

Message: Vibe--why not just replace the damn switch instead of trying to trick your pcm? The switch only costs $20, and it is just about the easiest job you'll ever do on your truck.
I had the same code on my 2000 4.7, ignored it and reset the PCM. The light never came back on but a few months later I popped the hood and realized that my PS system had been pissing fluid out all over the engine because the switch was broken.
See my previous thread for a walkthrough on how to replace it:
