Message: Left turn signal stays on solid and does not flash the right side works normal when Head lights and tail lights are on via light switch.
Later in the day after work, I discovered this when parking and having the time to check when it was still dark out.
When light switch is fully off (day time running lights on only) and I applied the brake pedal the instrument lights would light up.
When testing the four way flashers (Hazard) with the light swith off the instrument lights would flash along with the hazard lights.
When applying the left side turn signal with lights fully off the instrument panel lights would flash along with the left side lights both flashing.
When pulling out light switch so tail lights would come on then trying left turn signal, the flasher would stay on solid green and right side works normal. Both front and back left side bulbs where lit but not flashing also.
When pulling out light switch so tail lights and headlights for night driving would come on then trying left turn signal, the flasher would stay on solid green on instrument panel and right side works normal. Both front and back left side bulbs where lit but not flashing also.
It appears to me that the left side circuit is feeding back from the rear brake light circuit to the tail light circuit therefore explains why I seen the instrument panel light up with light switch off.
The instrument panel, tail lights and license plate lights share the same circuit.
Is this possible or do I have a bad flasher unit that would cause this?
No fuses are being blowen either.

Message: HEY DUMBA$$ WHAT THE F*CK DO YOU MEAN BY CHEAKED DID YOU RUB YOUR BUTTCHEAKS ON THE BULBS? GET A MULTIMETER AND CHECK FOR VOLTAGE GOING TO THE BULB SOCKETS ASSUMING YOUR BRAKE SWITCH IS GOOD AND FUSES ARE NOT BLOWN. YOU GOTTA HAVE POWER AND GROUNDS IF VOLTAGE IS GOOD CHECK FOR EXCESSIVE RESISTANCE AND CHECK ALL THE WIRING ONCE YOU DO THAT AND FIND YOUR SHORT FIX THE WIRING AND THEN POUND A 18 RACK OF NATTY ICE AND MAKE YOUR BABY SMOKE A BUNCH OF METH. THEN ONCE YOUR BABY IS DONE SMOKING METH YOU CAN SLAP THE SH!T OUTTA HIM AND MAKE HIM DRIVE YOUR BROKE A$$ TO THE WELLFARE OFFICE AND GET YOUR NIG WELDER. I HEAR THEY WORK GOOD IF THEY GET SOME ASSISTANCE FROM GEORGIA AND EAT CHICKEN...CAN YOU COOK A CHICKEN WITH YOUR CHICKEN. BETHOVAN THINKS SO , SO I BET YOU CAN TO, BUT BE INFORMED I HEAR THAT BARRAQCK OSAMA BIN BONGIN IS AN IDIOT HEAD AND DRIVES A DODGE DAKOTA, SO I ONCE AGAIN ASSURE YOU THAT YOU ARE INDEED a DUMBA$$!!!

Message: Re: Tink.
The lamps are tied together, but it's not
noticable when the grounds are all right.
When there's a floating ground on a combo lamp
(tail/turn for example), however, power feed into
one side will light up the lamps on the other
side.
So I'd start checking the ground connectors front
and rear on the lamps.
(This also causes the "It's on brighter for tail,
but goes out for turn!" syndrome.)
Re - Don:
Time to check the wiring around the reverse light
switch on the gear shift / transmission (not sure
which way your vehicle does it), because it sounds
like either the reverse light switch is out of
adjustment and BARELY triggering in Drive, or
there's a couple of bare wires touching and
bumping when going down the road. Do the reverse
lights work normally (i.e., in reverse they're
on)? If so, you can eliminate the switch itself,
and it's the fun time of checking out the wiring
for that double-nick in the insulation.
Re - IGO rot:
If the high mount brake light works properly, the
brake light switch is probably right. The others
are fed through the multi function switch, so even
if you've replaced it, it's time to start chasing
the wiring to/from it.
One more thing - I don't have your exact
make/model in front of me, is the hazard light
part of the turn signal switch, or separate? If
separate, check that also. On the stepson's 1988,
it appears (without tearing the column apart!) to
be a separate switch mechanically, but I could be
wrong on that.
Hopefully this helps some!

Message: Dear Ralph, I hope you are still here. My 1997 Dakota has no brake lights and I just want to know where to start. I have back up lights, tail lights, turn signals, but zero brake lights. The abs light and brake light on my control panel stay on also. I do not have lighter power and the blower motor on the a/c / heater is out also. Where to even begin?? I am in a pickle to say the least...thanks so much, Kendall

Message: I have a 99 Dakota sport. The brake lights, both turn signals and flashers quit working. I read the post posted here and was able to fix mine. It turned out the combination flasher unit failed. I trouble shot it by using a 12v test light. I ground it to the metal around the fuse compartment on the drivers side and tested the plugs that the flasher plugs in to and found that there was power to unit yet there was no clicking. I hope this helps others
Thanks for your site. Doug
