 Subject: Fan clutch reapired...maybe

Ok. I had my car in for repair and they replaced the clutch fan,
as they said it was totally shot... It did squeek a lot a while back,
but I just greased it for the time being to keep it alright.
Well I get it back after they fixed it... and now my truck sounds
like a freaking jet plane.. you know, the major fan noise.
Is this normal? I don't think a brand new dakota sounds likea jet
plane, our durango doesnt make this sound.
After driving it the first time, it went away after 10 mins,
sounded like normal ( aka there wasnt a sound at all.)
It isnt fixed is it? Never did this before

If the fixed the fan by repairing it then i dont know what to tell you.
But if they fixed it by replacing the fan then it probably was breaking in the time it sounded like a jet plane.

on the invoice they bought all new parts and replaced whatever
needed to be replaced, new fan clutch unit etc... anyways it makes
a real windy sound (jet plane sound) when revved above 1500
rpm's, it isnt normal.. never used to do this

Give it some time...it should settle down some.
I know on on cold startups after my truck was previously hot from driving a long way, my fan would roar like that. Drive it around a little and it would calm down.
If you have a 4.7 (or if you have an electric fan also on whatever engine), you can eliminate the clutch fan in all but hot weather...helps mileage too.

Ok thanks I'll give that a try.. I bet its fine.. but you never know.
But yeah its a 3.9, so no electric fan.
