Subject: Got soldering Iron? IP: Logged
Message: I just redid the ole #115 splice, while working on it, i noticed my old soldering iron isn't what it used to be. I have one of the cheap ones with the non replaceable tip that I used for circuit boards and stuff.
I am in the market for a new one and am looking at the cold heat one from coleman. Anyone have this? It says it has replacable tips. I see that harbor freight has them on sale for $14.99. I also noticed that advance sells them here.
Any other good ones I should be looking at, really interested in one with replacement tips so i can work on variety of wire sizes, etc.
I have a soldering gun, but it is just too bulky for some things so really looking for an iron.

Message: If your looking for an iron for delicate work with small wire your choice is ok > for more serious work the iron needs to be bigger > Even though the coleman well melt the solder no matter what , it is incapable of heating the metal which is vital for Good solid connections > With what you said you may well be looking at buying 2 irons > I have 4 > Small, medium, heavy duty and a triger gun with adjustable heat range >

Message: I have the cold heat from coleman with light duty tip and medium duty tip. It does heat the wires up so that the solder will flow onto the wires properly. I'm also an Instrument Tech and use it for
soldering wires together. It's easier to work with and solders an excellent connection. I've had mine for about a year it works good on circuit boards too.
