Message: My wife is considering a new car and she likes the new stratus. We will be test driving one very soon and its a lot cheaper than some of the foreign cars. I'd like to stay with DC if I can. She thinks the Neon is too small and the Intrepid too big. Has anyone heard of any good or bad experiences with the Stratus? Any horror stories? Any info of any kind, including personal opinions, will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jim.

Message: Hi Jimmy,
I know you are looking for a medium sized car but I have a 98' Concorde and it is great. If you are worried about manuverability with a larger car, those concorde/intrepeds can turn on a dime, unlike my Dakota(takes more like a baseball field!!!) The Intrepeds are great too. Built off the same chassis as the Concorde. Try one, your wife just might change her mind!

Message: I've heard bad things about the previous Stratus/Cirrus/Breeze. It seems that all kinds of small aspects of the car deteriorate. I've not heard much about the life of the engines. The Concorde is a very nice car, and you can pick up a slightly used one for cheap. They drive nice and can be completely loaded. I can't imagine that they will feel any bigger than the Stratus.

Message: Jimmyc :
I used to own a 1998 Breeze, 2.4L engine (traded it in for a 1995 Dak). Many of my friends said the vehicle was stylish and the back seat was extremely roomy.
I decided to get a truck instead because I found the car too low to the ground. Every time it snowed (about 3-4 cm of accumulation) you could hear the snow hit the underside of the car. Also the front windshield was so big, that on sunny days the windshield would suck in so much sunshine that the interior of the car would feel hotter than a sauna (and I had tinted windows on the car).
The a/c was ok, but because of the windows sucking in so much heat, that negated the cold air coming out of the a/c. Heat/defrost is good.
Ok fuel economy, but for a 4 cyl., I expected better. Best I got was 11 L/100 km in the city; highway was roughly 10 L/100 km.
Good handling; the 2.4L has pretty decent power in the city and highway. Transmission shifted smoothly and quietly.
Oh yeah, the front passenger window crank (mine didn't have PL and PW) rattled like crazy. Dealer did fix it, but still rattled.
I would personally get a Caravan/Voyager instead.

Message: My wife has a '01 stratus ES and I only get to drive it a couple of times a month but I find it very peppy. It came fully loaded without leather seats. We haven't had any problems with it in 8 months besides the apartment gate slamming into it a month after we bought the thing!!! I think she would love the car. I think my wife gets around 25 MPG and that is mainly city driving stop light to stop light.

Message: My fiance and I are also looking at the Status. The car was completely redesigned in 2000, and its almost all Mitsubishi. The 2-door stratus is slightly different sheet metal on a Mitsu Eclipse. The entire interior is the same. In the past, there were quite a few quality issues, but the 2000 and 2001 seem to be very sound. We are getting a 2001 Stratus RT, with everything but leather. Probably get it in the next couple of weeks.

Message: Thanks for the all the helpful info guys. We're most likely going down to the local dealer this coming week to check out the new Stratus. We're going to trade her truck in on it, if we get it. It'll be a long time before I part with my Dak QC.
