Subject: BIG PROBLEM HELP IP: Logged
Message: My 2004 doakota has a mysterious electrical problem. My brake lights went out and i thought it was just a routine bulb change. It turns out that all 3 break lights were out back 2 and the one on the cab. So i took it to some halfass place and they checked the fuses and the bulbs themselves and everything was okay on those ends. So he told me 89.99 an hour for 6 hours bc he would have to tear the car apart to find the bad wire or maybe something overlooked. So i left to see what i could do myself. If anyone thinks they might have the slightest idea to help me with this problem please let me know.

Message: Have you been able to check the brakelight switch? All of the part stores should carry them. It is normally located near the brake pedal, and easy and cheap to replace. It basically signals your brake lights to turn on whenever your brake pedal hits the botton on the switch. Good luck.

Message: have you checked the fuse/relay box under the hood (located behind the battery)? forgive me for possibly stating the obvious, but i've noticed that a lot of people don't even realize that box is under the hood. i'm not sure if there's a brake light fuse/relay under there or not, but worth a look.

Message: Definately recheck those fuses first, making sure to pull them out and look at them.

Message: I agree with Peter - If all the fuses and relays are working - its the brake light switch. Just helped a buddy replace his on a 2002.

Message: Why are you messen with it dave987654321? A 2004
is still under the 3/36 warrenty unless you
already have 36k on it.

Message: Is it just the break lights or is it all lights in the rear (parking and reverse)? I would have to say its the brake light sender if it's just the break lights.

Message: recently had this happen on my 2004. The fuzes are on the drivers side under the hood. They are also not your typical auto fuzes they look like little blocks and you have to wipe them off to see inside if the fuse is broken. mine had a light layer of dust that prevented me from seeing the burnt out fuse. I popped in a new one and havent had a problem since. and as another has said unless you have 36k let the stealership fuk with it
