Subject: Band adjustment 42RH IP: Logged
Message: Looking through the archives many have problems adjusting bands as described in Haynes. Could anyone give me a little more detail or suggestions? I just bought a 95 3.9 125K and I don't think the fluid has been changed.
Thanks for your help1

Message: the process seemed simple enough, but i somehow managed to screw it up several times.
At least I installed a drain plug while I was in there :)
Honestly, next time I'm paying someone to adjust the bands. I think I came close to hosing the transmission a couple times.
I have a 95 4x4 with 3.9 auto.

Message: I would pay someone if I thought they might know more than we do about it? I'd like to avoid resurfacing my garage floor with Type 3 (^!

Message: Making a mess was not a problem of mine. It was simple enough to get the pan down. I did drop my socket in the pan of used fluid a time or two.
Since I had the pan off, i went ahead and installed a drain plug. That made the subsuquent times after the initial attempt simplier.
I'd get one of the rubber gaskets instead of coak gaskets that way you can reuse it if need be. I used some grease to hold the gasket in place on the pan.

Message: I have adjusted the bands on my 44RE following the manual while i was in there replacing the filter. I didn't think it was bad at all. Just read it a few time and make sure you feel comfortable.
