Oh great masters of ping! :-)

I need some input on a problem I am having with pinging. First, the config,,, 02 QC AWD 4.7 auto. Second, the problem,,, pinging starting at about 3500rpm. Happens if its full throttle (open loop mode), or half-to-3/4 throttle (closed loop). Ping will disappear when using 93 octane. Note that I do have a Superchips installed, but it will ping on 87 gas with the stock program or the 87 program. Will also ping with 93 gas, on the 91 program.

What I've done so far:
o replaced plugs with 3923's
o replaced 195 thermo with a 180
o cleaned the TB and TB sensors
o ran a can of Seafoam through the gas tank
o ran 1/2 a can of Seafoam through the TB (cool mosquito fogging effect! )

None of the above have made any difference.

Any other ideas, besides 89 or 93 octane? I'd prefer to fix the problem instead of treating the symptom.

I am thinking it is the gas as well, I have basically the same setup as you.

The ping is gone when you run the 93 gas on the 87 setting. Before you change anything try running a different brand of gas.

I am running the 87 program with Texaco/Shell 87 gas and no ping.

Thanks for the input. This has been happening for 3-4 months now, and I've used Exxon, Shell, Citgo and Chevron gas. All with the same results. I also do not fill up at the small no-name shops

i had the same problem on my '00 3.9 and i installed Bosch platinums, not he +2 or +4's one range colder than stock. that eliminated the ping. even with the CPS mod i still don't get any ping on 87.
