Message: Could be rings. What year is it? Does it have a carb? Could be a clogged charcoal canister dumping raw fuel into the manifold.
The old 4.2L Jeeps do that. Kills the rings fast and you get raw fuel in the crankcase.

Message: See I've been kinda wanting to replace my O2 sensors but I don't want to fork out the cash right now. Guess that could be why I've lost my gas mileage over the past month too. Should I replace just one or both...that and depending on money which one should I replace if I just get one b4 or after the cat. Another thing is, is that when I start my truck it idles at 1k until I drive it. Then it'll settle down to like 600-700

Message: change the one before the cat. yes, that would be a reason your gas mileage is down. have you checked for any codes? though sometimes a lazy O2 sensor will not throw a code but will affect mileage. how many miles on the truck? O2's are good for about 80 to 100k usually.

Message: A bad injector can also cause this. It get stuck open and pours fuel into the cylinder. Be sure and check compression. Sometimes it can wash the cylinder enough to prevent ring seal. If it does, just squirt a couple of cc's of oil in the plug hole. Aim toward the high side of the cylinder.

Message: '00 4x4 3.9....no codes and I have a little over 112000. I really hope it's my o2 sensor seeing that it would be the easiest to replace. I would enjoy tearing into my truck but since I live at home I have to work outside and weather's getting really crappy. Gotta love the great northwest. Thanks for the help

Message: OK I got my O2 sensor and really hoping this is gonna fix my problem. Along with replacing if in fact this is my prob. Will this fix my high idle when I start up? It normally sits at around 1k til I drive it a little then it finally calms down, also my mileage should go up a little? what about performance since it's not eating excess gas? I dont expect much but a little?

Message: A bad O2 sensor will cause your truck to run crappy, so if it is bad and you replace it, then the truck should run better in all aspects.

Message: Yes, but the o2 sensors don't "kick in" until your engine/exhaust warms up to operational temp, so the high idle isn't because of the sensors. Might be a small vaccuum leak that stops after engine warms up.
If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

Message: i think cuzindoug could have something there with that plenum gskt. gas in the oil, high idle caused by vacuum leak until it warms up and 112k. could be? but try the O2 sensor first. it's much easier to replace than the plenum gskt.

Message: sorry 'bout that adam. maybe i should have mentioned to you about testing the O2 sensor before buying a new one. i'm not sure but i think a Haynes manual would have the test procedure in it. then you could have tested the o2 before you changed it.

Message: Ok how do you know if your plenum gasket has crapped out on you? Any way to test to find out?
I'm not thinkin my O2 sensor did the trick, didn't hurt to change it though.
