Subject: engine swap labor cost? IP: Logged
Message: I've been wanting to swap my 3.9 to a 5.2 or a 5.9 for a few months now. i can buy 318 5.2 for anyhwere from 350-1000 online but i was wondering what it is going to cost to get a shop to swap them out. i don't have the tools or time to do it myself. anyone own a shop or have paid for someone to do the work? or have even heard an estimate? any help appreciated!

Message: so far mine has cost me $350, and then 180 for headers
but im doing it myself, and i bought a whole truck from the insurance company
so i have no idea
aldatacity or whatever i think said like 32 hours for a mechanic to remove the engine and put it back in was like 25 hours or so, more for parts transfer

Message: A 3.9 to 5.2 engine swap at a shop could turn out to be real expensive. Besides replacing the engine you also have to replace everything that's not compatable between the 3.9 and 5.2; radiator, ignition, manifolds & exhaust, transmission, belts & hoses etc, etc, etc.........
If your doing this swap on your own it's going to be expensive, but paying someone else to do it is going to cost $$$$$$ The only way I would pay someone to do a engine swap like this is if there was a donor vehicle that they could get all the parts off of.

$600 at the MOST
and go from there, then you have everything
i almsot have the 95 dashboard swapped in
