hi guys hope you can help me my son has a 2000
dodge neon. it keeps quiting when you are driving down the road.
the only code that comes up is p1684 bat disconect in last 50 starts. when it quits it has no power if you disconectnthe neg cable it will start up and go again.
dealer is not much help thanks for any help in advance

i have a 02 dodge dakota quad cab 5.9 love the truck

Have an alarm ? I've seen one malfunction, leaving motorist stranded in an interstate travel lane; and that might set that code as it mistakenly shuts down power thinking alarm has been triggered. I'm sure it could be many other things too though.

yes it did have a alarm the dealer took it out on friday
car stalled on saturday.
is possible it could be the ecm
when it stalled last time the spedometer went to 120 mph and stayed there

that does sound like the kind of random failure you might run into with an ECM dying. You try disconnecting the battery and then connecting it back up again? I would say corossion on the battery terminals, but that would probably just make the car DIE, not do random stuff like you described.

Otherwise good luck. Neon isn't necesarily a bad car, but they can be a pain in the ass to work on.
