Subject: Shifting Problems IP: Logged
Message: My 97 3.9 is having problems shifting. It seems to have a hard time shifting from 2nd to 3rd and from 3rd to OD. I have to completly let off the gas for a couple of seconds and then it'll shift. I tried playing with the TV cable and it didn't help. Before this problem started I flushed the trans fluid and replaced the filter cause I replaced the gov sensor and regulator. When I filled the fluid I used mopar atf +4 and a couple quarts of +3 that I had in the garage. I also used an addative to help reduce slippage. Could this cause problems? I read some posts with similar problems that pointed to the speed sensor so I checked and mine is good. This problem seems to be getting worse so please help.
Sorry for the long post
-Mike

Message: There's yer sign ---- additive. I did it too. The mopar tranny does not like anything in it except mopar fluid. NO ADDITIVES, period. Dropped the fluid with the additive OUT of my tranny, another NEW filter and gasket, and refilled with mopar fluid ONLY. No more trouble, and that 94 Caravan is still using the original tranny at over 120,000 miles.
