Message: My truck will not start. It will turn over all day long---but no spark.
I have done the following:
Tested Battery
*Replaced Distributor Cap
*Replaced Rotor
*Replaced Ignition Coil
*Checked continuity of spark plug wires
*Spark plugs checked (they are fairly new)
*Spark check done by holding cable next to ground on engine block (check cable to spark plug and cable from coil to distributor)
*Checked voltage at coil---get 12V until I hear the auto shutdown relay kick in
*Swapped out ASD relay with another---same result
*Tested crankshaft position sensor (held multimeter leads to terminals B and C as book stated to check for infinite resistance---good
*Tested camshaft position sensor---good
*Examined 3 red wires to 1 red wire 1 ft away from drivers side relay box for corrosion---no corrosion
*Tested Engine coolant temp sensor---not sure how great the books test was
According to the manual if you get 12V to coil for about 2 sec's or so and then nothing you are to check the ECM circuit. At this point I am leaning towards the ECM being the culprit, but for $200++ dollars I'd like to be sure.
Seems like a lot of people replaced their CKP sensor and that solved their problem. Would like to know if that resistance check is accurate or if any of you have any other suggestions.
Your help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

Message: Same truck, same problem. shame no one tried to help this guy out. after I researched I found this problem was somewhat common. this site had good info=
2carpros.com/questions/dodge-dakota-1994-dodge-dakota-engine-turns-over-no-spark
Ill try to post what the problem was for future references. If I can find the problem. spent 7 hours so far diagnosing.
*new ignition switch
*Somewhat new fuel pump (run lucas full time)
*somewhat new 02 sensors, new cat converter
*new ig coil, plug wires, and spark plugs.
tried the key dance trick and cant get a code.
I checked the 3 wire splice as he did. intact.
* batt is somewhat new and very clean
my next step is taking off the ASD relay cover and watching the contact actuate. If it doesn't then I will replace cam and crank pos sensors.
if still persists Ill try a new alternator.

Message: I found the part that caused all this trouble on my Dakota.
the hall effect sensor/ distributor pickup has a magnet and mine was in bad shape. had a bunch of crud on it.
so sometimes it got a signal out and sometimes it didn't resulting in intermittent engine failure. Cost me $40 to replace.
