The idiots in the atlanta area all decided to raid the pumps tonight based on useless rumors. Gas prices at pumps near me are $4+ for regular (bp off highway was $3.19, in the 20 minutes it took me to pick up my wife and get back to the highway, it was $3.99. I saw reports of $6+ plus around town.
Everyone got in a huffy and thought we'd run out of gas .. well the pumps are empty now you @#@$@#$#@!!!
I hate dumba$$'s who believe in rumors.

Thank the media...they told everyone gas was gonna skyrocket overnight so everyone went and bought gas yesterday and then it skyrocketed overnight.

I haven't watched the news too closely. But I went to casually TOP off my Dak tonight so it would be ready to leave after work Friday Night.
I "topped" it off with 87 octane for $30 and then filled two 5 gallon cans of 91 octane for the ATV's for another $30+
Damn. I hope there's gas in Flagstaff by Saturday night so we can make it home!

A big reason the price went up so fast is due to the hurricane. The oil companies lost an average of 5.4 BILLION dollars due to damaged, destroyed, and lost rigs.

The oil companies LOST money? Since when you idiot? They have been making RECORD profits to the tune of $1B a day. How can you say $5.4B is a loss when they've been fukcing us every day now on a continuous basis. How much do you have invested in the oil companies that would make you say such a thing.

Yes, the media reports possible shortages. But the media not checking facts is another complaint :)
But, rumors spread on the internet like wild fire.
And yes, it's price gouging. And yes, Georgia did declare a state of emergency yesterday and as such special price gouging laws went into effect.
One co-worked told me the fine is 5k per incident unless you are senior citizen, then it's 15k per incident. I can neither confirm nor deny those figures.

and thank you to all the fukker looters. azzholes like that are one of the reasons insurance premiums are so damn high. now not only will they have to pay for the structures destroyed or damaged by the hurricane but also all the surviving buildings' contents that are stolen.

the state of georgia has aleady started taking action against the gas stations based on customer input for price gouging.
Maybe the state can get an influx of cash from the fines to expand the roads here and ease traffic congestions.

Here in Washington, one of my co-workers watched an Exxon station up its gas prices three times last Saturday.
Did any gas delivery tanker show up all day? Nope.
New higher prices on the old gas.

Definitely price gouging. If there was an oil shortage the oil companies should be making the same profit, if not less, than they were before the "shortage". Regardless of if the gas is $1./gallon or $5./gallon. Unfortunately they are recording record profits. Guess how many politicians own stock in oil companies. Our commander in chief is #1 offender. The same politicians are getting rich (indirectly of-course)from the Iraqi war! But that is another debate!
I work in the news media and have worked for all of the major international and national networks. I can tell you first hand that often facts are not double checked and sometimes stories are exaggerated (never fabricated)in an effort to get the most edge of the seat response. News is a business. The more viewers you have the more you can charge for advertising. You get more viewers by having more drama. You would think that people only want to hear good news, but that really isn't the case. We're a nation that has grown up with Hollywood stories. Stories that involve action, drama, death and lots of fantasy. Take a look at 24 hour news these days. It imitates Hollywood. The saying is true "if it bleeds it leads".

I was listening to the Dave Ramsey show and there was a guy saying the same thing. People are just gouging like crazy down there. There a 1888# I forgot what it was but its to inform the state gov't about people who like to price over $4 gallon. found what the number and inform the right away. The state government will fine them 5 grand.
Up here in Nashville its $2.88 a gallon!
ATTENTION!! I just herd on the show that people in Louisiana are paying below $3.00 a gallon.. So there no excuse for all the gouging!

From the AJC (Atlanta Journal Constitution) which is the local paper...
By midday Thursday, the Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs had taken about 350 complaints about price gouging at the pump, spokesman Bill Cloud said.
"We're taking them in, lining them up and gonna take the worst ones first and work our way down," he said.
The "worst" included complaints of a station in Columbus charging $7 a gallon and one on the Southside of Atlanta selling regular gas for $6.19 a gallon, Cloud said. But gas prices appeared to "have retreated significantly" after Perdue said Wednesday evening that price gougers would face fines of up to $5,000, and up to $15,000 if the victim is a senior citizen.
Cloud said motorists who suspect price gouging should keep and copy their receipts. They can fax information to the Office of Consumer Affairs at 404-651-9018, or call 404-651-8600 or 1-800-869-1123 (toll-free in Georgia, outside the metro area).

NYC area Friday A.M. 2.41 per gallon, in Toledo they just dropped from 3.30 to 2.99 Rochester NY this PM, 3.19 will see youngest son when he gets in on bus from cinci tonight, (it was cheaper to buy a bus ticket then go get him usually it is cheaper to go get him at college then use the bus) and let you know later along I 75 all along ohio.

I work for a small oil company so may be privy to some information that has not yet made it public. A lot of what is going on in Atlanta IS price gouging but theres more going on behind the scenes than just that. First we lost approx 15 oil platforms in the gulf due to the storm. One of them that was damages was the MARS platform which produced 200k barrels a day. One refinery on the coast was completely whiped out. THe Hunt company had to shut down two of their refineries due to lack of crude supply. The crude supply is not only being effected by the lost production caused by the loss of the oil platforms but also by the lack of electiral power causing the pipelines to be off-line; meaning the refineries can't get crude pumped in. Our refinery in AK is now operating at 50% due to lack of crude suppy.
Next on the list of problems is the fact that the port of New Orleans is a major center for incomming foreign crude from Mexico and South America; supplying most of the southeast and eastern seaboard.
Also on the list of problems is that two of the major pumping stations; Collins, MS & Meridian, MS were without power for a couple of days meaning no fuel trucks to restock the gas stations. I'm sorry to say you haven't seen the worst of this gas crunch yet; things are going to get worse, much worse.
On the bright side both Collins and Merdian had power restored as of yesterday and trucks are begining to roll but this is only a temporary thing the lack of crude is still going to be a problem.

Well I've seen on Foxnews that there where some looters stealing high price shoes and nintendo game box systems. I quessing there willing to wait about 3 months tell the power comes back on.
Also I herd reports about some thugs who shot at a chanuck helicopter, to bad they couldn't shoot back with a 50 cal. That would have solved that problem.

the state of Georgia suspended the state sales tax ($0.15). They are still pursuing complaints of price gouging. I just spent $74.25 for a little over 25 gallons of gas. With the suspension of the sales tax, prices are now around $2.99/gallon. I got an additional $0.10 off with my kroger plus card (spend $100 at kroger and get $0.10 off per gallon up to 32 gallons). I have a 95 CC 4x4 that gets 18mpg combined and it has a 22 gallon tank. I still need to cut grass!
