Subject: LOCKING GAS CAP
IP: Logged

Message:
Not that I don't trust my fellow neighbors, but now would be a great time to go out and buy a locking gas cap. With gas prices over $3 a gallon, I get the feeling desperate times will call for desperate measures by some people.

If people are going to loot right in front of police and National Guard troops, imagine what they'll do when you are sleeping.

Why do you have to be such an a$s R2Dakota2?

The guy just simply puts out a bit of info that maybe some people aren't thinking about right now and you want to slam him. You are the kind of person that others detest on this site. How about keeping your a$sinine comments to yourself.

I agree with Dak. I haven't seen a post on here where Obie talked negatively about anyone and you have to give him some $hit. Keep your arrogant comments to yourself. And you can't even apologize in an adult way. Seems you are the one wearing the diaper.

I read an article where thives are taking a new approach. They are drilling holes in the bottom of plastic gas tanks. Faster than siphoning.

Wow, wouldn't that be stupid? Friction from the drill might make the gas explode. I heard they would probably cut the fuel line and let it drain that way. Either way, we all better be watching our cars.

What is wrong with you people. Maybe since the person is smart enough to think of going for plastic instead of metal that they're not just gonna go tearing through it. I highly doubt drilling through plastic will heat up enough to cause any kind of heat to ignite the gas. Since gas cans are left outside in the sun all the time do you ever hear of them just exploding. No, no you don't. It will get hot yes, but not to cause an explosion. So maybe if you weren't such a hotdog maybe you would have thought of that!

You don't even know the meaning behind that. All you did is resort to something you saw slightly amusing and decided to use it because you have nothing else to say. Wow! Congradulations.

Drilling thru the TOP of a gas tank where all the vapors are would be bad with a little spark. The bottom where there is no trapped air and vapors I think they'd be pretty safe.

Damn, look at us, sitting here trying to figure out ways for friggin' theifs to steal our gas. Maybe they're not the dumb ones after all..

I was in advance auto picking up a few things and was talking to the manager as we were looking out the front door facing a QT gas station across the road and making fun of the idiots when he mentioned they sold out all of their locking gas caps.

I don't like them either Dan and with the problems the gas cap has given these Daks with false codes, not sure I'll keep my locking one on there. I got one the other day, so far, no check engine light; the after market (non lock) I put on a month or so ago has worked great. Check engine light never came on. I was constantly getting the P-0442 code and since the new cap...nothing. But, if somebody wants the gas bad enough, locking one is only a small deterent at best. I need a two car garage.

this all issustrates the quality of parts over the years. Most of the parts on my 95 are original and I can't recall ever having the MIL go off (knock on wood).

It has nothing to do with quality of parts. The MIL goes off if the vacuum in the tank is not sufficient to contain the fuel vapors. A loose cap allows atmospheric pressure and too much venting, and trips a code. So you have to be careful when choosing an aftermarket locking cap.
