Well as much as I hated to do it, I traded in my Dakota yesterday for a small car. I really liked my Dak too – ’02 QC 4x4 4.7 loaded 3.92. I got rid of it for one reason only – gas prices/ fuel economy. I could no longer justify putting $50.00 in gas in it every week. I really didn’t “need” a truck anyhow, it was more of an image thing with me I guess to be honest.

I traded in my Dak on the smallest car Dodge makes with the smallest engine with a manual 5-speed transmission (36 MPG). I got a black loaded Dodge Neon SXT. With the rebates and employee pricing they owed me $1200 after the trade...lol. So I left the dealer with a nice sized check, 7/70 and an economy car.

I really didn’t think I would ever like a small car like this, but with it being pretty well loaded and with a stick shift it really is sort of fun to drive. And no more gas pump shock with it’s 12.5 gallon tank. I figure I’ll just get a little utility trailer for those rare occasions when I do need to haul something that won’t fit in the trunk like a washer or dryer or desk or something.

Thanks to politics and corporate greed gas prices are expected to continue to climb and go up even higher next year with no end in site. I don’t know if I’m the first here to say uncle and make the move, but I bet I won’t be the last.

Oh well, thanks everyone here for the occasional help and entertainment.

Good for you! Lots of people are doing that, and I think it's a smart move. There are way too many people driving around in behemoths just because of the image, and they are not smart enough to admit it. Who needs a Ford Monolith to drive 4 miles to work every day?

If I could get away with just a small car, or I had a longer commute, I would buy one too. But I really do need a truck, and having both just doesn't make economic sense. So I suck it up, and ride the Harley whenever I can; there is balance in the force.

My wife traded in her old mustang last dec for a 4 cylinder 4 door grand am. We got a great deal on an 01. It gets 20 city and 30 highway.

I went looking at the new (05 and 06) dakota's today. Asked the sales person if they had plans on making the quad cab in a full size bed. When they told me no, I told them I won't be buying a new dakota anytime soon. I told them that toyota does. They didn't beleive me, so I told them to call a toyota dealer. Then they asked me about a ram .. I just laughed... they looked at me weird.. I asked "only if you give me free gas".... they had comment.

Glad you like the new car. I worked with a guy that had a neon, it was pretty sporty for low end car.

Thank god I got a company vehicle to drive to and from work!

If I don't have gas, my Dakota can sit in the drive way all week.

Little cars vs. behemoths.
I'd rather pay a little more money in gas than drive the smallest cars on the road. At least here in Phoenix area people in small cars get KILLED when getting hit by people in them huge SUV's. Many buy the BIG Expedition, etc and then throw 25 inch rims and jack them up 12" on top of that. No contest for a Neon or similar.

I don't see the need in jacking up a truck that is USLESS. i also don't really want to be in the smallest cars (I've HAD a Neon).
So I think our Caravan and Dakota is somewhere in between. :)

My truck is my daily driver, a 2000 CC 4x4 4.7. I have it just for an image thing. Hell thats the truck that I wanted since i was 12 (18 now). I love the thing too much to trade it for a neon. My fillups are 45 bucks for 16 gallons, which last me about a week, so i'm not complaining yet.
