Subject: Rear End Lube...?? IP: Logged
Message: Ok, the subject seems a little weird if you think about it carefully enough, but I do have a question about the rear end in my truck. I have a 2000 4.7L 4X4 Auto w/ 3.55 9 1/4 rear end....
When I change the fluid, do I need to get a new gasket also or is it a reusable one?? Or if i just decide to siphon it out what is the easiest way?? Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Message: I just happen to have the 2000 dakota service manual in front of me.
The 2000 Dak uses silicone "form a gasket" There is no other gasket on the rear differential cover.
Syphoning is certainly "easier" but will leave some contaminated lube behind.
Do not forget, if you have TRAC-LOC LSD, you must also add the special LSD additive too.
