Message: The swaps really fall into two major categories:
.....up through 1995 and 1996 on. The difference is in the valve body. They'll all bolt up, but in 1996 the valve bodies were changed to electronic control, and the OBDII computer is required for it to function. Up through 1995, the valve bodies are not electronic and can function without any computer input, or as was the case on all the Dakotas, with computer input on overdrive and torque converter lockup only.

On the '99 and '00 models, I'm not real clear on just when the newer automatics "rfe" 5-speed autos, almost 5-speed, whatever they are, started appearing so that may be an issue of the swap due to electronics of the pcm, but otherwise, yeah they'll swap.
