Subject: This cant be good... IP: Logged
Message: I just got finished changing the tranny fluid on my 01V6 SLT (42RE) and the sludge that came out of the pan was black like motor oil. There was a good healthy layer of caked on black/silver goop in the bottom and the ring magnet looked like a donut.
Question: Did these trannies come from the factory with a cork gasket? Mine had one. I bought my truck used and I'm beginning to wonder if somebody had been in there already. Hopefully the black goop is MolySlip or something like that and not most of my clutch packs.

Message: Did your truck have a hitch on it when you bought
it? If so maybe former owner pulled heavy loads
and never serviced it.
I believe mine had a rubber gasket on the pan the
first time I changed oil and filters.
Lots-O-luck you don't have any problems with
yours! Former owner may have added all sorts of
goodies to it then traded it..
