Subject: DESPERATELY NEED HELP IP: Logged
Message: I went out to my truck to start it and it wouldnt start. I had a lot of corrosion on my cables so i changed them out. I got a jump start an in ran. So I`m driving it around and it tells me to check gauges my voltage gauge has shot up in the red to 18. Also my fuel gauge falls to empty when i had 1/2 tank of gas. I kill it and it doesnt do anything but click. What in the heck is going on with it?????

Message: How old ? Look for a bad ground strap between motor and body before you jump to the conclusion its the alternator and the battery. Its usually a bad regulator or the ground strap if its overcharging, not the alternator. Overcharging can kill the battery.

Message: Maybe. Or you're new battery is just charged and you are running on it until it discharges.
Go to Autozone and get a free altenator check.

| RE: DESPERATELY NEED HELP IP: Logged
Message: If it was overcharging as you claim then you could still have one of the problems I pointed out. When you're overcharging, the battery will hold the charge fine until it burns out (shorts a cell).

Message: I agree with Kowalski. My first thought was voltage regulator.

Message: thannks guys but i think the power was just messing with my gauges. witch explains why my fuel gauge was going haywire the voltage meter was probably giving a false reading just like my fuel gauge was. It`s still running fine and hasnt messed up anymore. Even went out and had her detailed today. She looks SEXY as hell.
