Subject: what should I know? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 95-318 with 128,000 on it. I'm looking at a 99-5.9RT with 100,000 on it. Is there anything that you guys know as to reasons to stay away from this year and model? What kind of gas mileage do RT's get? Is it worth the change? My 95 is paid for. Thanks Noah

Message: The R/T is more of a fun toy than a serious truck. Towing/hauling capacity is low. 2wd only. It sits lower to the ground. It's probably seen some hard miles. Functionally, it's a step down (IMO), because I buy trucks to be trucks, not performance vehicles. But they are very popular for people not like me.
There are no differant functional gotchas for this truck than any other dakota. Give it a good going over, and check those things that generally wear out - brakes, differential, ball joints, etc. Watch for signs of significant wear in the trans - it's sort of a weak point with all Dodge trucks, especially one that's been beat on.
