Ok now I've decided to play with my electrical. Currently I just have a V8 TB and CAI as mods with a new Cap and Rotor from Napa. Right now I'm looking at the MSD6A module ($178), MSD Blaster SS Coil ($41), MSD 8.5 MM Wires ($83), Perma Cool Electric Fan ($109), and the ASP Underdrive Pulley Kit ($122). Grand total $533 so I'm not gonna get it all at once. I have a few questions though. I've read that with the Underdrive kit and electric fan there may be some probs with the alt. since there's something new drawing off of it and it's not puttin out as much anymore. Also is it just suggested to go witht the MSD 8.5 or could I find a cheaper one and if so do you have any suggestions? Thanks.

Upgrading your ignition system will give you a slightly smoother idle and a better start in the bitter cold. Other than that, nothing. Don't expect any power gains, because there won't be any on an otherwise stock engine. Otherwise the stock ignition system will perform the same.

MSD wires are nice, and I have them on my Cobra. But, again, on a stock engine they won't do anything. A good set of 7mm silicone wires will carry all the juice your ignition system will make.

Underdrive pulleys will make a little extra power, but you've already identified the major problem area.

An electric fan free's up engine power. But it has to be pretty big to meet the needs of your truck. You need at least 2,000cfm to keep it cool on a hot day in slow traffic. And I would consider that a bare minimum, and only if shrouded correctly.

The electric fan I'm looking at flows 2950 CFM and is drawing at just under 10 amps. See the way I look at it is that maybe not just one of these will give me incredible gains but all of them working together will show for a noticable increase.

The fan is definatly worth some power. And a big one like that should work well. Unless you live in Yuma or the Gobi desert.

Same with the underdrive pulleys. Generally worth a few ponies at the upper rpm ranges. No low end torque, though.

The ignition upgrade really is not worth any power at all. Ignition systems just don't work that way. You will probably see some improvement in low speed operation due to the multiple sparks. And it will start better on cold mornings. But no additional HP/TQ.

I would do the rocker arms before the ignition. More bang for the buck there. Assuming you don't have the 4.7. If you do, change the cams for the same reason.

I dont expect much of a HP gain from the ignition but I was hoping for maybe better fuel economy. I really can't complain about it right now since I drive it hard and still manage 16-18 mpg city/hwy. Other thing is, is that cuz I'm not cool I dont have a V8 and the MSD6A is not a multi spark for the 6. I'm guessing it's just gonna put out more spark than usual. Maybe I'd just be better off with the wires and coil for now. Thinking about it more I don't see the need for the module. I'm still wondering about my alt putting out enough power if I run the electric fan and put the underdrive pulley kit on since the alt pulley is one of the pulleys to get replaced.

You can use a Crane Hi-6s on your 6 cylinder. You'll get multi-spark up to about 3,000 rpm's.

The alternator pulley is a real concern. Your fan needs to work at it's peak when you're sitting in traffic. Unfortunatly, that's when your rpm's and electricity production are at it's lowest. Try installing the fan first, then the crank pulley, then the alt pulley. When things start to get marginal, stop.

That's a good idea thanks for the info. I just got a new muffler so I'm thinkin I'm gonna go with the fan next. Relatively cheap compared to the rest of the stuff I want. I'll check out crane and see what's up with them. Later
