Well not so much it's stupid but the light is on. I just put on a body lift so I'm assuming there's something up witht the clock spring since my steering wheel moved a bit (says not to let that happen) and now my air bag light is on and that's the only thing I can think of. Is there a way I can fix the prob or is that just something that I should take in to fix and pay $ I really dont want to?

Dude,

I know it'll cost the $$ that you don't have...but take it in.

That truck has kicked your a$$ now a couple times.

The last thing you need is an airbag deployment in your face when your cruisin' down the street and hit a bump - or - worst case scenario - you get in a 'dent and it doesn't deploy.

Take it in, spend a little $$, and get some rest from working your a$$ off on your truck!!!

Ok so I called a dealership to see how much it would cost. He he he $140 just for labor if the clock spring is indeed the problem...first they want to diagnose the problem to see if I'm right at $70/hr and then the part it self is $50. About 75% of me is about to take the damn thing apart to see if I can see where the clock spring is and what kind of trouble it would be to do it myself. I have an extended waranty but I'm probably F'd since this is the cause of an aftermarket dealing. Anyone tried this before?

just a note ..... if the airbag system "sees" a problem and the light comes on ... the airbag system will NOT work....not even in a crash .... pull the fuse and check all of the body sensors.. you could have pulled a little too much on the plugs... as for the clockspring being damaged..... if it is.. your horn and cruise controls will be damaged too ... a body shop should be able to pull trouble codes for the airbag system... it might not cost you too much

Well my horn works. I just checked it, as far as the cruise control working it has never worked because I dont have that luxury. So you're saying during the lift I could have pulled the wires too much and they got diconnected from where they were connected? Do you know where they plug to so I know where to look? Any help would be nice cuz I really don't want to have to pay for it.

Most of the connections are under the plastic covers around the steering column between the steering wheel and dash. Screws exist on the underside of this cover affair, and can be removed with a T-20 (I think) torx driver.

So where would I have a disconnected wire? None of the wires on the steering column should have been affected. I still think it's my clock spring cuz when I drove it I heard something click and I'm assuming it was the spring snapping or what ever. My horn still works though so I have no idea. I cant check out the fuses or anything just in case they blew because I can't figure out how to get the yellow tabs around them off. I can pull them out but they're still connected. I can't pull them all the way out.

The clockspring is a coiled ribbon cable in a plastic housing that keeps the airbag hardwired. It uncoils and recoils as the steering wheel is turned. They use this rather than slip rings which could lose contact.

They don't have a lot of travel and if they're not centered properly, they will break. This is probably what happened in your case. The only way to know for sure is to read the code with a DRB or pin out the connectors with an ohmmeter. It is mounted on the steering column, directly below the steering wheel.

The replacements are shipped centered and sealed with tape to prevent them from turning until installation. The wheels should be in the straight ahead position and alignment checked before beginning replacement.

So it's the round plastic thing directly behind my airbag. I take it I need to pull my steering wheel huh? Guess I'll go to autozone and see if they can pull some codes. Thanks for the info.
