I have a 2000 3.9L 4WD Dak running close to 100K, and I'm stumped. A while back (not certain exactly when) I began experiencing a Vibrational Issue. When I hit about 65 or so, I would get this vibration (the origin of which I can't pinpoint) as if I was running over enormous wake-up strips. It would escalate until about 75, at which point, BAM! It would just drop out. No fade-out or anything, just a hard stop. The problem is still there, but the I/O points have dropped to 55/65, leading me to think that whatever it is, it has gotten looser (but what do I know?). A friend of mine at work recently let me know that he believes I have an exhaust leak, due to the extra-throaty sound when I start up. My exhaust is completely stock. I did recently (this past winter) have both the CAT and muffler replaced. Could something have been insufficiently tightened in this assembly and be causing this problem now? I've been under the truck, and can see no obvious holes in my exhaust system.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

hey i just read your other post and it has me wondering if both your problems are really one problem--your u-joints. the clickety clickety sound is a sign of u-joint failure. only problem is it wouldn't be coming from front right but underneath the truck in the center and/or towards the back. if you have a sliding rear window, open it and drive to see if you can't pinpoint the sound from the center or back. or have a friend listen from the bed or as you drive by.

another sign that it could be your u-joints is that you only hear the clickety when moving and not at idle. i had the same problem on my truck and just had my u-joints done.

if the sound truly is coming from front right, that makes me wonder if you have 4x4 and it is the joints on your front driveshaft ... but you would only hear that if you had full time 4x4 which i don't believe they offered in 2000, but i can't say for sure.

there was a post recently on how to test if your u-joints are bad, i would look that up or just take it to a shop.

the stealership wanted $70/joint from me, i got them for $26/joint at NAPA instead, these ones with grease fittings. the shop i went to charged me 1.5 hours in labor, so i got it all done for cheap.

also, you wanted to know in your other post if the fix was a DIY. i'm pretty sure u-joints are not a DIY because they have to machine press the new joints onto the driveshaft.
