Subject: Too much air IP: Logged
Message: I have a '95 Dakota with a 5.2L, I bought the K&N "cold air intake" which is nothing more than a big open air cleaner, but whatever. Anyway, after running it a year or so, I went to get my emissions tested and failed. Looking at the results they gave me it looks like I was running too lean. Turns out I also burned up a cat in about a year, which also leads me to believe I was running lean. My thought is to put bigger injectors in, but I'm not sure what I have now, or what I should use, or if it will even help.
The only other mods I have are a free flowing cat-back exhaust, a Mopar performance computer and I modified the throttle body to flow more air.
What do you guys think? Am I wasting my money?

Message: Upstream O2 sensor also plays a role in air/fuel mixture.

Message: If your cat went bad, wouldn't that be running too rich? I have a 95 as well, but 3.9L. There is 1 O2 sensor, it's upstream of the cat. How many miles are on the truck?
Different people offer differnet intervals as far as how often to check the O2 sensor, I've seen as low as every 30k miles and then I've seen it depends on the age of the vehicle (they use differnet types of O2 sensors).
The O2 sensor regulates air/fuel mixture alternating between rich and lean to balance (50% rich, 50% lean).
I think I paid around $50-60 for a new O2 at advance.

Message: Yup, its too much fuel that kills a cat.
