Subject: Possessed Speedo IP: Logged
Message: Hello, I have a 99 Dakota 5.2 auto tranny 4x4, recently I have been having trouble with the Speedo goring from zero to 120 and back, it does this when stopped and while driving, usually when driving it just fluctuates a little bit. But when stopped, when it goes to 120 and back and I take off it wont shift, I will be doing 30mph at about 3,000-3,500 rpm. If I floor it I can get it up to 40 maybe but still no shift. Sometimes I can shut the truck off and it will work fine.
It has been doing this more recently so on Friday I brought it to the dealership. They called with the diagnosis and said that they wanted to replace the front tranny seal and torque converter for $2,000, and could rebuild the rest of the tranny for an additional $1,200!! They also said that they could not guarantee that this would fix the problem. I told them not to do the tranny.
So they called me back after an hour or so and said that they would like to replace the tps sensor and the wiring behind the dash TSB# 08-05-00. They also said again that they could not guarantee that it would fix the problem. But I ok’d the work.
I am picking the truck up on Monday, I was just wondering if anyone had any input on this or if you had a similar problem.
Sorry for the long post, just had to vent, thanks fjerstad.
