Subject: Hotchkis Coil Spring Install IP: Logged
Message: I was wondering if I will need an inside spring compressor for the springs. I've read on several posts that you do and you don't, so a good word on yeah or neah would be nice. The instructions just say that these need to be installed by a professional. I have a '01 CC R/T
Thanks for any help.

Message: Did the fronts 2 yrs ago on my '00 R/T, but used DJM springs. You won't need a compressor, but be sure to chain the spring so it doesn't fly out and smack you in the noggin. You'll have to trim the stock bumpers from the lower A arm, or cut them off and replace with some shorter ones.
Take your time and you'll be OK. The hardest part, for mine at least, was getting the lower ball joint separated from the A arm, after that it's all gravey.
Post back here when your done.

Message: I've got an '01 CC that I installed Hotchkis on. It's not an RT though. I just backed off the nut on the lower ball joint enough to get the joint broken loose. Then I lowered the arm with a jack. There was very little tension on the spring with the arm fully down. I also secured the spring with a chain as a precaution. Much easier to reassemble as the new spring is shorter.

Message: Installed my springs today along with the sway bar and shocks. It was a breeze, aside from drilling out the rivets that hold the factory bump stop. All that I did for the springs was remove the nut, put a jack under the lower control arm and jack it up. A few sharp raps on the ball joint post and it popped right off. Then slowly lowered the lower control arm. There was no tension left on the spring and out with the old and in with the new. The other thing that sucked was installing the Bilstien shocks since they were extended and had to be compressed an inch to get the bolts started. The front end was the easier than the rear. The leafs gave me a real headache for some reason. So far all's good and the Hotchkis TVS kit with the Bilstien shocks is great!! Really tightens up the truck. Can't wait to autocross this weekend. Give the 'Vette and 'Stangs a run for their money.
