Subject: governor pressure sensor IP: Logged
Message: I have a 97 v6 auto (42re) that is not downshifting into 1st when I stop. I've been reading alot on these forums and have decided it is probably the governor pressure sensor/solenoid. Does this sound right?
I want to get another opinion before I spend $200+.
Thanks

Message: I am pretty sure that has a mechanical spring/counterweight type govenor like the other tranny's (904/727) and if it were to stick, it could prevent you from getting 1st gear. I haven't had that problem myself. But I've had them stick and give nothing BUT 1st gear.
A sticking shuttle valve in the valve body could do the same thing. Be sure to flush the fluid good and replace the filter. I've had to take apart valve bodys and clean them and that sucks.
One thing I like about Chevy TH tranny's. the govenor is accessable from the OUTSIDE of the tranny by removing a cap and pulling the govenor out.
I don't think my 5-45RFE even has one. probably a electronic speed sensor.
