Subject: v6 to v8 engine swap question

Message:
I'm getting ready to do a engine swap on my 1997 dodge dakota with a 3.9 to a 5.2. I went to the local junk yard and pulled 2 injectors from a older dakota with a 5.2. I dont know which wire is what. One wire is green with a orange stripe down it and the other wire is blue with a white stripe down it. Which is the ground and which is the power. thanks

The 318-powered 1989 Shelby Dak started out as V-6 Sport models. There were no suspension changes for the V8. The '87 and '89 share the same frame. No strength issues to worry about. Tranny will bolt up, but you will need the have balance weights added to the torque converter to match the 360's requirements, or if a stick, get the appropriately balanced flywheel. You will need to fab some engine mounts, or do like Shelby and add a forward crossmember and use D-150 engine mounts. The tranny placement and driveshaft remain the same. You will need an electric fan for the radiator since the longer engine takes up the space where the V6 engine-driven fan would be.
