I was disappointed that D-C didn't just use the new Durango front end. If you notice, the Durango and Ram still have curved edges leading to the sides of the fenders. The abrupt "cheese slice" fenders on the '05 Dak is just way overboard with all the other creases and edges. By contrast, the '97-'03 Daks have no sharp edges whatsoever; sorta like Marilyn Monroe....

At first I didn't like them at all either. Still don't like the Durango. But the Dakota has grown on me. I do like them now. Haven't seen the interior or gone for a ride in one yet. But I do like how they look. Just like the previous post said, no one liked the last generation Ram's and Dakotas either. But im sure everone on here will come back and say they loved the last generation from the start. Sure ya did.

the 97-03 bodystyle is so dated it's stale. The 05's, while not beautiful, are at least something different.

Well when it first came out I hated it. Took away the Dakota class and it a mini-ram. Over time it has started to grow on me and now it is okay. After looking at all the other “trucks” out there, Even the new style Dak looks better than the rest. When my 97 dies I will probably buy a new Dakota.

I am ok with it. It was little edgey for me at first, but I have grown to like it. I now own a 2005 Dakota ST 4x4 Club Cab. So far so good. Good handling, decent V8 power, quiet ride. The real test is what my opinon of the truck will be after 100,000+ miles.

I have an 01 and i will not buy a new dakota when this one is time for the parts yard in the sky. I despise them I'd rather buy a trailblazer and thats really bad. So i give it a -10 out of 10

Well,...
I was out looking for a New Truck to Buy. I went to Ford 1st and Almost bought a Ranger, I mean I was an Inch away from buying it and then the Sales Manager made a Smart A$$ comment about me while i was holding for the saleman to pickup the phone. I wasnt on Hold or anything, the phone must have just been sitting on the table or something. When the saleman picked the phone up I told him, Tell your sales manager he's an A$$hole and Screw Your Company.
Then I went and looked at Chevy's and thought OMG what a POS. I test drove a Used 2004 Dakota and said,... Well I think I'm going to go and check out the new Dakota's.
I went Straight to the Dodge Dealership and Left with a 2005 v8 4.7L Dakota.
I Think the Truck Looks Great and Rides Well to.
For those of you who don't like it,... To each their own.
We all Know that the New Dakota Body Style Rules so just come to your senses, The Sooner you do that the sooner you'll feel better.
Now that I own an `05 Dakota. I think it looks better and is a lot faster, more powerful and very much improved on over the older models.
WOOT! Lets Hear It for the 2005 Dakota's !!!

Congrats! I like the new Dakotas myself. I think they'll catch on, especially with that Mitsu thing and the offerings from GM, Toyota and Nissan.
What was the comment? BTW, I almost bought a Ranger too until I tried fitting in one. Ouch. Not made for anybody over 5' tall.

I have an 05 and I really like mine!
It's a Quad cab 4x4 SLT 4.7-H.O.
It has plent of power and I like how they look. The sharper lines are more masculine and aggressive looking in my opinion.
I guess everyone has their own taste, but I'd wait to see if it grows on you before deciding.
Most vehicles repulse me when they first come out and then some actually grow on me as I see them around. That is what happened to me with the new Dakotas anyway.
With the 4.7-H.O. mine goes quite well and the LSD is NECESSARY! The H.O.pkg comes with the LSD and 3.92 gears and it still can spin them on dry pavement...
There are other imrovements as well... The headlights are brighter and have better coverage than the older Daks. They actually have a lens design that cuts the beam in a strait line horizontally like european cars do. It's also more aerodynamic than the older generations. It uses a 5x5.5 bolt pattern that should make finding custom wheels easy enough. It seems to have more room inside, but I'm not sure about the numbers. The exhast on mine sounds pretty snotty for a stock exhaust! It also rides and handles great for a truck.
It is different, but I liked the changes myself. Give it a chance! Later, Glen

I like the Gen III body better too. I hate to be abroken record, but I wished it looked more like the Durango 05 model too. It seemed to have gotten bigger also which I don't care for. IT doesn't look like a sport truck to me ... IMO.
