Message: Depends on a lot of things...color...the business doing it...your location...etc.
Black/white are obviously gonna be a crapload cheaper than red and other colors. If you go to a smaller family-owned type of body shop you're probably going to pay a lot less than a bigger well-known place. Funny thing is...a lot of those bigger well-known places that charge almost double what the small places do, sometimes do a really crappy job.

Message: buyer beware!!! with paint jobs, you get what you pay for. imho, for a decent paint job for a truck, start thinking about $2500 and up.

Message: Depending on what you do, a MAACO cheap paint (where they paint dirt, glass and whatever else is on your car) can run you around 400 dollars, going to a shop where they prep everything, do doorjambs and all that can run you upwards of $3000.
Best advice if you just want something decent is to do all the prep work yourself and go to a paintshop. Don't get a cheap job, but something decent. The more work you do the less you pay, talk to the owner and ask him what you can do to keep their labor at a minimum. You should keep the paint the same color or similar and make sure you have tires you don't mind getting paint on.

Message: Thanks for the replies. 3g's is about what I expected. The reason I asked is that I have some work being done and I asked for some estimates for some other problems and at the end of the day, I have estimates for $3800 worth of work. I'm having a rear quarter panel replaced and that is a little costly but otherwise, it's just prepping and repainting a door, the hood and the roof. I thought...at this rate, it would almost seem like I'd get a better deal if I had the whole thing done.
Doing my own prep work is a good idea. I'll have to check into that. In the mean time I'm only having done what really needs to be done. Thanks.
