Inside my door, the window has two metal "arm's that run to the track where the window sits in. The inside arm (closer to the front of the car) fits into a plastic "nut" that runs in the track. Mine is broken and the dealer doesn't carry it.

Do I have to go to a junkyard, or is there some other quick, easy way to get one of these?

as a last resort you could take the one out of the other side as a "sample part" and have a machine shop, not an automotive machine shop, but a "job shop" make one for you. sometimes they will do it for just a few bucks. But that depends on how big a dork runs the place. Have them make it out of delrin, either white or black, makes no difference, it should last the life of your truck.

I am already on the job. After giving up on trying to find replacements and getting junkyard ones and trying to replace mine and breaking damn near every one, I contacted a friend of mine at a machine shop to see if he could make me some aluminum or steel ones. I sent him 3 cracked ones for exact measurements with the heads up that I will need to be able to press these on rather easily.

*Those plastic parts are not a replacable item, per several regulator repair companies I contacted on the internet, you must buy the whole regulator assembly to fix your window problems.

Once my machine shop contact sends me what he is able to make and if I am able to replace mine then I will post my results on here and depending on what kind of demand there is, I might get him to make me a huge batch and sell some of them. I have been through 2 regulators already due to those crappy plastic parts.

Izzy,

That's the part! I am interested in getting extras, so post here if you have more of them made.

Did they break taking them off or putting them on?
I don't mind grinding the taper a little to get it on if I have to, and maybe I can pop the rivet and back the mushroom ball joint off of it. Any suggestions would be appreciated, since you've been there and have a good idea of what should work to get them off one in a junkyard.

Also, I thought about finding something similar to that piece at a hardware store and grinding it to fit. I won't pay $100 for a used whole arm mechanism when it is a 2 cent fix!!!

Luc,
I cannot stress how much I want your topper but I do not think my budget is going to allow for it. Since I inquired last time, my house A/C died and I just had to drop $4400 on a new 4 ton A/C. GOODBYE Tax Refund!

Doug,
As soon as I hear anything from my machine shop contact, I'll post something here. I told him I was interested in having them made from aluminum or steel (to prevent them from breaking again) and I wanted them slotted to make them easier to "pop" over the mushroom headed rivet. Is yours a "power" setup or a manual hand crank setup?

Mine is power windows, though I'm not sure if it makes a difference as far as the plastic roller goes. I just got back from a junkyard, where I couldn't pop one off, so I am still very interested, and will monitor this post.

Metal would be fine with me too. By the way, are you driving around with the door panel off, or did you put it back on? Mine is off, since it is such a pain to unhook all the electric hookups, etc.

My window works fine without any roller, but I'm concerned that the metal would eventually rub the track, cause damage and end up breaking the motor or something. Also, when I do put the panel back on, I want to know I won't have to take it off again! Does your window work fine with just the mushroom head in there?

I thought there must be something else I could put over the mushroom pin that would last a long time, but haven't found anything else that would work, yet anyway.

Yes, I drive around with the panel off, I do not use my window at all right now. I live in Central Florida and its hot as hell here so its A/C all the time.

My regulator does not work worth a darn with just the mushroom headed pin, the track comes off all the time. I actually just have the track butted up against the window holding it closed.

I still have nt heard from my buddy but will send him a "just checking" email in a few minutes.

OK, thanks. I will continue checking until I hear about your situation and if he can produce more.

I thought about going to Home Depot or Lowe's and finding something similar and cutting or grinding it as needed to see if it works. I even thought maybe a metal nut would work, but don't know if the roller is supposed to roll (turn) or merely slide. If it just slides, I'm figuring the nut might work because the arm on my regulator pushes the pin into the track, keeping it there, and shouldn't pop out of a nut with similar depth as the roller. I have to pull pretty hard to get that pin out of the track....

Look through the window, door, screen, repair section at Home Depot. I've seen small rollers that are used on shower doors and sliding glass doors, though they might be different dimensions. Some have a threaded stud in the middle too, might be able to drill out the stud in the regulator arm and replace that sh1tty part with one of rollers from Home Depot.

I MAY have fixed it. I went to Home Depot, like DSW suggested, and found a European Self-Closing Bottom-Mount Door Slides that has rollers in it not too different from what we need. The rollers are bigger, the hole is narrower, and it isn't quite as thick (if you set it down next to the broken roller like a donut on a table, it doesn't go quite as high), but I figured I could work with it. Then I drilled out a roller drilling through the pin from the back.

After I got it off, I got a 3/8" drill bit and drilled out the roller, but made sure it gripped it so it would turn the roller, and grinded it down on sandpaper to be no wider than the broken roller. Then I widened the hole some, even a little wider than 3/8" by reaming it with the 3/8" bit a little.

I then went to the door, used needle nose pliers to pry back the bent in metal at the end of the track, top and bottom, took off the nut that holds the window onto the track and pushed out the screw so I could fit the roller on the track, and pushed it over to the mushroom pin. I pulled on the arm so the pin came out of the track, slid the roller over to line up with the mushroom pin, and set it in the hole. I didn't have to push much for it to go in. Then I greased the wheel and whole surrounding track area on both sides of both rollers, and put back the nut on the screw that holds the window to the track and tightened it. I ran the window all the way up and down about 7 times, and it worked fine. That's not to say it won't break on the next try, but it works fine for now. I will test it out over time some before putting my door panel back on. It seems to be as strong as the original roller, but I guess time will tell.

The slides that have the rollers are white, metal, about 14 inches long, and come in a pack of 4 slides and 4 rollers for $4.99. It is made in China, and the number on the bottom of the scan sticker is 81266 17521. There is a green sticker holding the slides together, and says Bottom Mount 12"/300 mm D68812 Self-Closing Bottom Mount.

Luc,
Darn but then again I am glad to hear at the same time. Tax refund just came too, what can I spend $6450 on now?

Doug,
I sent a "how's it coming" email his way on Wed but haven't heard back yet. I will post as soon as I hear something. I am also glad to hear DSW's idea and that your "mechanical ingenuity" has kicked in as I never thought of that as an option. I might look into it too.

On a side note, I now have a NEW Manual drivers door regualtor if anyone is interested.
