Subject: 2wd OE tire sizes IP: Logged
Message: Hi All,
What size tires were available original equipment on 98 2wd models. I recently purchased on 98 CC 'Sport' and it has 235/70/15 tires. The door jamb says 215/75/15.
Also, didn't later models have a 16" wheel available. What size tires came with the 16" wheel on 4x2 models?
I am trying to figure out my wheel/tire options.
Thanks

the factory 16" 2x4 tire size is 255/65-16". They are 29.1" tall, the Good Year LSA tires. And true to form they were good for 1 year.

Message: My 2001 Dodge Motorsports came with 16x8 with 255/65/16 Eagle #1's, which were basically Goodyear LS with yellow letters. I watched the tire pressure, and 6K rotations, and got 45K on a set. I have a set of R/T 17x9's with Michelin LTX Pilot 255/55/17 (factory R/T size) for daily use. The Michelins have over 50K, still a good way from the tread bars. The Goodyears were 29", but the Michelins are 28", so my PCM was flashed for the 1" difference by the dealer. My '01 has a 3:92 rear, but the 28" tires put the "feels like" ratio closer to 4:00 to 1.

Message: Do trucks that come with 255 section tires come from the factory with fender flairs? I don't have the flairs on my truck and the 235s are pretty much even with the outside of the fender now. I'm guessing the 255s would stick out without the flairs ???

Message: 98Dyd, if you have the 5 spoke wheel, the 255 tire will be a little too big, and that will cause handling difficults when you driving close to yours and the truck`s limits.
As to the tire going out further than the fenders, you can buy the original ones from your dealer on the exact collor of your truck. That will make it look a lot better and it will cost less than 400 bucks installed..
I have flares since when i ordered my 2000 2wd.
It is really ugly having the wheels going outer than the fenders, besides you can`t keep it clean.

Message: 215/75-15 and 235/75-15 according to Tirerack.com...
I've had both sizes on my Dak (got the 235's now) and I must say the 235's are MUCH nicer looking, well...if you like the "aggressive look".
